ARA Toronto - Support for the Mohawk Blockade at Tyendinaga

Railroads Blocked in Solidarity with Six Nations Land Reclamation
Support for the Mohawk Blockade at Tyendinaga
April 21st, 2006

On Friday April 21, 2006, half a dozen anti-racists from Toronto and Kitchener drove to Tyendinaga to show support for and solidarity with dozens of Mohawks blockading the main CN rail line which crosses their territory. The 24-hour blockade was itself an act of solidarity with Six Nations people locked in a fight for respect of their sovereignty and land rights near Caledonia.

Police cowered hundreds of metres away while the blockade took place, using binoculars to get a glimpse of what was happening. Over a hundred million dollars worth of rail cargo was blocked on the tracks, costing Capitalists dearly and putting pressure on the Canadian state to negotiate a settlement to the dispute.

The blockade was removed by activists when word of “meaningful” negotiations with Six Nations was received. But it was made clear that in the event of bad faith, the blockade could be put back up at any time.

Overall it was a strong and successful stand. And ARA activists were proud to show our support and solidarity.

¡Antifascismo para siempre!
